Welcome to Suburban Running!
My name is Kyle and all through high school I was an athelete, not the best but it was what I did. I ran hurdles for our track team and only missed the state meet by one place. That was the peek of my athletic career. Ever since that time I have steadily allowed myself to get more and more lethargic until one day it hit me. I am FAT!
At my peak I weighed in at close to 210 lbs, which isn’t crazy but for me and my build it was pretty bad. I wasn’t eating right and I certainly wasn’t getting any exercise. I made a few life changes, like no more Mountain Dew, and I started running again. When I started running again it amazed me at how my life changed, I was happier and I had more energy than I had had in years. It was an amazing feeling, I had a goal and it was run in a local 5k race. I achieved that goal and finished my 5k in 25:47. It isn’t anything to write home about but I thought it was a great achievement for someone who hadn’t run much since high school.
After that race I ran a few more times and then, for no good reason, I stopped running. I just quit doing it and now I am starting my upward trend in weight gain and downward trend in overall happiness and energy. Last week as I was wallowing in my own self pity I made the decision that I was going to run again. But not only did I make the decision to run, I made the decision to run a marathon.
I don’t know many people who can say they have endured for all 26.2 miles of a standard marathon, it is a life achievement that I know I would cherish and always remember. But more than that, running a marathon takes determination and training. You can’t just wake up one day and say “Hey, tomorrow I am going to run a marathon.”
So this little weblog of the web is going to be my place to chronicle my training, achievements, and set backs on my way to running a complete marathon. I will provide regular training updates as well as explanations of what I am doing on my journey. I also hope to be able to provide some reviews of products which help me along the way.
Running to me is a hobby and hopefully will again be a passion. It is something that allows me to free my mind, relax, and think of nothing but me and the road. This is my journey, join me along the way.

Congrats on your decision! A marathon, at any speed, is both a huge commitment and accomplishment. I ran my only marathon in ‘07 and I’m registered to run another this November.
I look forward to seeing how you progress!
